ARCHAEOLOGICAL FUND
The Pavillion of Archaeology in the Historical Museum of Shkodra was inaugurated in November 2002. It was a fruit of cooperation of the Municipality of Shkodra and the University of Florence (Italy). This joint project used the spaces of the ground floor of the building, composed of two halls, with traditional architectural elements and with original values of stone and wood working, together with the metallic exhibition panels. Thus creating a balanced combination of the traditional with the modern. The individual lightning of the objects placed within the glass cubes, makes them well-displayed and creates emotional effects plunging the visitor in a true ancient environment.
The archaeology sector is in the ground floor of the building, with the exhibition halls and that of the funds. The archaeological fund has close to 542 artefacts, from which about 200, are exhibited, while the other part is saved in the fund. The archaeological object of this sector represents all the historical periods, from the Neolithic Era (6000 years B.C.) to the late Medieval (16th century). They have a geographic stretch that includes all the area of Shkodra. A big part of them comes from casual findings, but there are also objects that come from various archaeological digs during expeditions made in this territory.
The objects can be classified as : tools, household devices and transport, religious objects, weapons, ornaments, grave objects, architectural objects, coins and medals. A part of them have prominent artistic values. About the used material, they are mostly made of flint, stone, marble, bone, ceramic, metal, glass, etc.
These objects were mainly made locally, but the collections also houses artefacts that derive from the trades with nearby or far away places.
